How to change the favicon in Joomla 4

To change the favicon in Joomla 4, follow these steps:

1. Log in to the Joomla Administrator Panel:
– Open your web browser and enter the URL of your Joomla 4 website followed by “/administrator” (e.g., “www.example.com/administrator”).
– Enter your administrator username and password to log in to the Joomla Admin Panel.

2. Access the Template Styles:
– In the Joomla Control Panel, click on the “Extensions” menu item and select “Templates” from the dropdown menu.
– Alternatively, you can navigate to “Extensions” and then click on the “Templates” icon.

3. Edit the Template Style:
– In the Template Manager, you’ll see a list of installed templates under the “Styles” tab.
– Locate the template style you want to edit the favicon for.
– Click on the template name or the template’s preview image to access the template details.

4. Navigate to Favicon Settings:
– Within the template details, look for the “Favicon” or “Site Icon” option.
– This option may be located in the “Options” or “Advanced” tab, depending on the template.

5. Upload a New Favicon:
– Click on the “Choose File” or “Upload” button to select a new favicon file from your computer.
– The favicon file should be in .ico, .png, or .gif format and have a square dimension (recommended size: 16×16 pixels).
– Ensure the favicon file is appropriate for your website and represents your brand or website identity effectively.

6. Save Changes:
– After uploading the new favicon, click the “Save” or “Save & Close” button to save the changes to the template style.

7. Clear Browser Cache:
– Sometimes, the favicon change may not be immediately visible due to browser caching.
– To see the updated favicon, clear your browser cache or open the website in a private/incognito window.

8. View the Frontend:
– Open a new tab in your web browser and enter the URL of your Joomla 4 website to view the frontend.
– The new favicon should now be displayed in the browser tab and bookmark bar.

By following these steps, you can easily change the favicon of your Joomla 4 website. The favicon is a small but important visual element that enhances your website’s branding and helps users identify your site when multiple tabs are open in their browser.
